[community profile] snowflake_challenge 2014 - Day 13

In your own space, talk about setting yourself a fannish goal. Big or small, it doesn't matter. Some great examples include: complete a bingo, sign-up for a Big Bang, write that fic you've been thinking about for years, podfic that story that you love, make a fanmix for your fandom, post that bit of meta or reclist you keep postponing. Maybe resolve to be better at leaving feedback, or answering comments.

My goal is to continue creating. Icons, art, drabbles were fun to do last year, so I'd like to do more in 2014.
Maybe I'll even try to write something longer.

But until then - something short:

Title: Your Songs Know What You Do In The Dark
Author: [personal profile] winterlover
Fandom/Characters: Bandom Spencer, Ryan
Word Count: 100
Rating: none
Summary: Brendon’s on stage and Spencer’s at home.
Warnings/Spoilers: none
Author's Notes: I don’t own any of those characters. They belong to themselves. Nothing I write about has actually happened. Except when it has. But I wouldn’t know.
Not betaed. 100 words can only mean about 99 mistakes, so I’ve risked it.
Title based on the Fall Out Boy-song, of course.

Stretch yourself a little and try something new. Go play in a new fandom or with a new pairing or trope. Try creating a different kind of fanwork. Or check out some types of fanworks that are new to you.

I wrote things, I made a "photo-comic", icons and did recs. I have read and looked at fanworks from other fandoms recently. So at first I thought that I might have to skip this day again.

But then I read [personal profile] akamine_chan's wishlist and thought about creating a cover for one of her podcasts. I looked on her list and got lost in the huge amount of fic and artwork. I clicked at random entries and somehow landed at her Pillow series. A lovely story, including tentacles!

I had read some tentacle-fic recently, because of[personal profile] seyren mentioning her rec list in one of her recent snowflake-entries.

So I felt inspired to do art. Or, rather, a banner of some sorts. Is this transformative work already? Definitely "inspired by-". <3
Therefore I'll dedicate it to [personal profile] akamine_chan and [personal profile] seyren.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge 2014 - Day 10

IIn your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge 2014 - Day 9

In your own space, rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn't like (because they weren't your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn't be interested) but you ended up loving.

1) Need You Like Air
artwork by [personal profile] akamine_chan
Created for a prompt about breathplay-kink-discovery. Bandom.

I haven't been looking at artwork a lot. For me it's mostly about reading stories (says the one who's made artwork for the same gift-exchange), but because it was for a challenge I took part in myself, I wanted to take a look at everything that had been created.

The combination of powerful and sweaty performance-pictures with words that are almost like song-lyrics makes a gripping analogy to breathplay: physical, potentially dangerous and hot.

And - it made me discover A Softer World which I hadn't known before.

2) You want me to leave it there
fic by [archiveofourown.org profile] Philipa_Moss, "Queer As Folk (UK)"

It's not that I thought I would not like a story about Vince and Stuart's future, but I never thought I'd need one. Although recently, I must admit, I wondered about what Vince would make of the new Doctor Who.

But those glimpses in a future life with the same kind of humour and emotion that I remember from the original series - and yes, a mention of the new DW - are really enjoyable.
Same men, same problems - or not?

I can't really think of a third thing to rec. I'm probably not open enough to try and read outside my known comfort-zone. That's probably because there are so many great fanworks there, I can't even catch up with all my bookmarks as it is.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge 2014 - Day 8

In your own space, create a love meme for yourself. Let people tell you how amazing and awesome and loveable you really are.

I haven't interacted with enough people to receive love for being me. If anyone loves what I do, my art, my fic, my drabbles, please comment in those posts or on AO3, that's where I feel love the most!

<333

And now I'll spend the last minutes of my day looking and commenting at others' love memes before I have to go to sleep.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge 2014 - Day 7

In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something.

Of course I didn't get an idea for the whole evening. Only when I decided to go to bed I "just wanted to try something".
And now I made icons from photographs I took in London last year:

[community profile] snowflake_challenge2014 - Day 6

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul.

I don't know if I got into David Bowie because my life was changing (I was 15) or if my life changed because I've been listening to every record by David Bowie that I could buy since then. I saw him live several times, first time in 1990 and it always was brilliant.

But the first time I interacted with fans was with Bowie-fans. We didn't have the internet at that time so I worked on fanzines and had lots of penfriends. Most of those "friendships" didn't make it over to the virtual age, but with some people I'm still in contact.

So here I'm sharing a video of the "Sound & Vision" Tour, which still gives me goosebumps when I'm watching it.

P.S.: Last year I made some Bowie-icons, if anyone's interested.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge 2014 - Day 5

In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing.

I discovered a lot of amazing creators during the last years, so I hope there'll be lots of chances of talking about them. But for now I chose sunsetmog.

I started reading fic by reading short stories and ficlets. "The Holiday" by sunsetmog was one of the first long stories I read, which was a couple of years ago during my christmas-holidays. It's a funny romantic friends-to fake husbands-to lovers story. I enjoyed it so much that I read everything else, sunsetmog had written in bandom. But I must have missed her Rugby Verse which I discovered only last december and it became another feelgood-read for my holidays. The kid-fic-verse "Annabel" is a sweet but not too sweet story which at the same time made me relieved that I don't have children, but want one (and a Spencer!) at once.

The long stories never get boring or feel repetetve. There's lots of pining and banter and hot sex.

As my examples show, even if I like all the other pairings, Spencer and Brendon are my favourites in sunsetmog's stories. Probably only hotter when in a threesome, which is my absolute favourite kind of story: PWI (Pr0n with Issues). Unfortunately she (I'm assuming she's female - correct me if I'm wrong) hasn't posted a Bandom-fic for a while now, but when (*coughstherejustwascoughs*) she will post a +100K fic in a different fandom, I might consider reading it. Because sunsetmog.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge 2014 - Day 4

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"
It doesn't have to be anything complex - it can be feedback for a fanwork or discussing something you might have in common or even simply admiring their icon. The point is to reach out to someone you normally wouldn't and connect with them, even if it's only for the briefest moment.

I did something like that yesterday and the day before. So I won't say that I've completed today's challenge but I don't feel too bad for not doing more today.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge 2014 - Day 3

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser-known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom who maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

First of all: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

This is the second time I'm taking part in the [community profile] snowflake_challenge. I'm still not participating a lot anywhere, but I've been reading and enjoying other fanworks during the last year. And through the 2013-challenge I've discovered many new authors and artists I like.

Now for this year's challenge:

[community profile] snowflake_challenge 2014 - Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.
