I haven't posted much lately (forever), but I did take part in the [community profile] bandom_holidays fanworks exchange and had lots of fun creating some "movie-posters" for [personal profile] sperrywink . I didn't have time to take part in Bandom Big Bang, so I'm glad that I was able to create something at the end of last year. And because I recently learned that AO3 lets you copy and paste pre-fabricated html, I can now professionally link to it:

Day 9 : In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

I just scanned through my recs from previous years. Because I only posted one fanwork in 2017 so there are not enough new things for me to rec.

I had linked mostly to my fic, so this time I've decided to link to some graphics/comics/digital art that I made and had a lot of fun creating.

1) Alles Who's Zählt
- Photobucket ate my pictures in the original post on Insane Journal, so I've just uploaded it to AO3 -

Originally created as a birthday present for a friend in my first active fandom "Alles Was Zählt" in 2011, this comic is  a cracky mix-up with Doctor Who. I had so much fun creating it so I thought this would be a good opportunity for a re-upload.

Creaotor: winterlover
Fandom: AWZ/Dr.Who (10th doctor)
Additional Info: graphics-heavy
Rating: G
Summary: “There’s an Alien in the Center. Who could it be?”
Warnings/Spoilers: rapid time-movements, i.e. haircuts and clothing from different eras and blurry pictures.
Author's Notes: I don’t own any of those characters or pictures.
They belong to RTL and BBC and some unknown artists/photographers.
No money is made from this. (Originally created for lilithilien’s birthday.)

2) Lost in Space

Created for [personal profile] turlough for the bandom_meme fanwork gift exchange 2013, prompt set #9 "Gerard/Grant Morrison, lost in space - because space AUs are awesome!"

Creator: winterlover
Fandom: Bandom/ComicsRPF/Dr.Who (5th doctor)
Additional Info: graphics-heavy
Rating: G
Summary: “Gerard Way and Grant Morrison lost in Space.”
Warnings/Spoilers: none
Author's Notes: I don’t own any of those characters or pictures. No money is made from this.

3) Art for "No Future In Our Dreaming" by Prophetic

Creator: winterlover
Fandom: Bandom, My Chemical Romance, London
Additional Info: graphics-heavy
Rating: G
Summary: Art for Prophetic's story "No Future In Our Dreaming" for Bandom Big Bang 2016.
Warnings/Spoilers: none
Author's Notes: I own most of those pictures, only borrowed some.
No money is made from this.

This is my most "critically acclaimed" artwork (meaning the number of comments and kudos on AO3) and I'm proud of what I did because I used mostly photos I had taken myself (the London-pics, not the photos of the bandom-guys) and had a lot of fun altering them to fit the noir and moody theme of Prophetic's fic. I especially loved creating the bedroom-picture where I put some of the photos on the wall in the background and even added some real artwork from Gerard Way's twitter (or instagram?).

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  - Day 5

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

This is an easy and a difficult task for me. Easy because everything I'm reccing I really love, but also difficult, because HOW TO CHOOSE ONLY THREE?
Oh well, I'll try:

1) [personal profile] turlough's knitting is something that I always admire, but her contribution to Bandom Big Bang this year was the best:
Welcome to the Black (Cat) Parade are knitted MCR-kittens! They're so cute and so well done, up to the uniforms, or the eye-makeup, they were one of my highlights of this year's BBB.

2) I must admit I didn't have time to read all [community profile] bandom_holidays entries yet. But I read "Soon The Bells Will Start" by Jiksa and loved it. It's a funny story about misunderstandings around Christmas resulting in - or not resulting in (no spoilers! ;-)) - a threesome.

3) "Front Row Seats" by LadySmutterella, illustrations by johanirae is a great story about animal transformation which I had expected to be fluffy and funny, but after I had read half of it, I had giggled a lot but also teared up a few times already. A very emotional story that I was very impressed with. The illustrations are brilliant as well.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  - Day 2

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul.

I really don't know if how I am made me fan of the things I am a fan of, or if being a fan of those things made me the way I am now.

Because this journal is mostly about me and bandom, I want to share a bandom-epos that was one of the first longer fics and AUs that I read when I started reading bandom-fic. I did read it on a jounal (LJ or DW?), but recently looked for a download on AO3, and yay, it's there, too!

"Screaming Down the Starlit Sky", a Vampire-AU by herlovewasajoke and reena_jenkins probably features every bandom-person that existed at that time it was written. And Adam Lambert. I guess that's how I found it, because at that time I had been looking mostly for Adam Lambert-fic.

The series is made of 16 parts and based on the video for A Little Less Sixteen Candles, a Little More "Touch Me" by Fall Out Boy. I didn't know most of the bands or people, didn't know the video, but was captured by the story. After that I looked for more and more bandom-fic. So my life as a reader was changed.

I'm late, but that's what happens when I spend New Years Eve at friends and then time at my parents. I had great fun there but no time for memes. But I don't want to miss this year, so here we go:

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  - Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

I always liked to rec fics from the last year, but when I look back at 2016, there are actually only three works that I posted over the last 12 months, starting only in September.

But I do like them, so they will be my recs:

1) 100 Ways To Say “I Love You” (not really 100, actually)
It's a collection of drabbles in the Killjoys-universe (bandom) inspired by 100 prompts. I only used 17 in the end, but I quite like how those drabbles turned out to paint a bigger picture of the Killjoys' lives in the desert.

2) Speaking of pictures - for Bandom Big Bang I created Art for "No Future In Our Dreaming" by Prophetic. I was very inspired by the story and my love for London, so I made some art from photographs I had actually taken myself in London over the years.

3) Last, but definitely not least, I took part in Drabble Day 2016 where I wrote drabbles for 10 different fandoms (The Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Bandom, Star Wars, Fear the Walking Dead, Please Like Me, My Mad Fat Diary, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Alles was zählt) in 12 hours. That was great fun and an inspiring end to the year.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  - Day 12

What makes you fannish? And by that we mean, what is it about a tv show/movie/book/band/podcast/etc that takes you from, "Yeah, I like that," to "I need MOAR!!!" Is it a character? A plotline? The pretty? Subtext that’s just screaming to be acknowledged?
In your own space, tell us what it is that gets you to cross that line into fandom.

I'm not very fannish, actually. I wrote about my journey into fandom last year. I watch a lot of TV shows but I was never so obsessed with one to call myself a fan and wishing to create things for or about it.

There are a lot of bands that I love but don't feel like reading fic about (or only found bad fic for), and I found out about bandom through authors, not the other way round. But fic and the fans on the web made me curious about the real persons behind the stories.
So last year I saw Adam Lambert and Queen live and Fall Out Boy in concert, I'm following the former MCR guys on twitter and I would have gone to see Gerard Way and Frank Iero if they would have come to a venue near me.

When I create myself, fic or art, I need to feel something about the characters I write. And in art I do have to find the people at least a bit attractive.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  -  Day 3

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it.

We create stuff because we love doing it, so getting to talk about what we've done and why we love it - how great is that? It doesn't have to be your most popular fanwork, or the one you think is the best representation of what you do. It can be something you did today, or decades ago, whatever you created that you want to share. And remember, we're open to any and all kinds of fanworks. Fic, podfic, knitting, meta, a rec list, fanmix... the list is pretty much endless. If you think it qualifies, then it totally does. End of story :)

1) Icons and Artwork for the Bandom Holiday Exchange 2015
My most recent work. I'm very happy that the recipient liked what I created.

2) Poison Pink
Art and ficlet for a [community profile] bandom_meme  prompt.

3) Oh, Tom
Words for the little known fandom "Alles Was Zählt" which I mentioned in another entry. No knowledge of the fandom is necessary to read this, mostly because I finished an old draft and have no idea myself what exactly this was about. But I liked the sentiment, so I put it on AO3.

First of all, Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays!

Over here we're celebrating on Christmas Eve, but this year I got one more present on Christmas Day.

A mystery author ([archiveofourown.org profile] syrupwit who will be revealed in January) wrote me a "Killjoys"-fic for the bandom holidays gift exchange.

If you like Fun Ghoul/Party Poison and gay boys with issues, read "baby, you're much too fast" here on AO3.

For my first participation in [community profile] bandombigbang I chose to make complementary artwork for a fic.

I made graphics for Sundrowned's story "Hand in mine, into your icy blues".
I started out in a fandom about gay figure-skaters with issues, so I couldn't resist when I read the prompt for the story.

Title: Digital Art for Sundrowned's story "Hand in mine, into your icy blues"
Creator: [personal profile] winterlover
Bands: MCR
Pairings: Gerard/Frank
Characters: Gerard Way, Frank Iero, Mikey Way
Rating: Teen and up audiences
Warnings: blood - in one of the dividers
Summary: complementary artwork for Bandom Big Bang 2015, Wave One

I created three different kinds of graphics:

1) cover art

2) scene/chapter dividers [WARNING for blood in one of them]

3) three bigger pieces, inspired by quotes in the story.

Lately I've been disappointed a lot of times because none of the bands I would like to go and see live was coming anywhere near me since I had become interested in bandom-bands. To be fair, they all played here BEFORE. But not last year when I would have bought a ticket.

So I had been waiting excitedly for tour news, only to be disappointed. Again and again. 5 times actually, hence the title of this post. With one exception!

5 artists/bands who didn't play in my city and one (two) that did - under the cut because of pictures )

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  - Day 14

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create.

(Tell us about specific fanworks that you think are great. These could be your all-time favorites, or some things you found recently that you're really into, or just the first three things that pop up in your bookmarks or tags. However you want to work it out. Recs are love! ... See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser-known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom who maybe aren't well-known or appreciated. Appreciate them.)

I have quite a varied taste in fic. I read a lot, from short PWPs to long chaptered AUs, multiple pairings, in different fandoms, various tropes, kinks, etc. I usually avoid incest (but read when I trust the author) and stop reading when the writing is very bad or when there is a lot of (even consenting) shaming (not sure if it's even the right term for this, but anyway, I won't read it).
My favourite is bandom though. That's where I started creating a bit myself. But I've recced lots of bandom-fic already, in this year's Snowflake Challenge (check out my "recs" tag) and in past years (2014), so I tried to rec stories that are not what I usually read but got bookmarked by me as favourites. But before I read bandom I didn't have an AO3 account for long so I don't have many bookmarks that aren't bandom. Oh well...

"Just Like That River I've Been Running" by miss_begonia (17.044 words, explicit) is a Bandom (Brendon Urie)/Adam Lambert mix and my comment on the bookmark was "Love the glimpse into the musicians minds and hearts."

"If This Is Love" by sunsetmog (85.591 words, explicit) is not a lesser-known fic in a rare fandom. It's One Direction, Nick Grimshaw/Harry Styles. But sunsetmog is a writer who I follow everywhere. I just like their writing and characterisations, and this fic is no exception. The tags for that story are "Unresolved Sexual Tension, Coming Out, Best Friends, Angst, Baking, Quite a lot of angst, Christmas, Toblerone" - everything that I love.

"by streetlight this dark night" by clumsygyrl (thegirlthatisclumsy), (5.329 words, teen and up audiences), My Chemical Romance, Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling, Bob Bryar/Ron Weasley
“I carried an amp.” Ron said dryly. - Ron escapes his old life and finds a new one. I really like the beginning, how bleak Ron sees into the future, how war left everyone a loser. So nice to see him trying to getting his life back on track.

- And now for a few bandom-only-recs that I just came across again and thought maybe someone might like them:

"But Not the Song" by emilyray (emilyenrose), ignipes (192.263 words, explicit, other warnings) Panic! at the Disco, Ryan Ross/Spencer Smith/Brendon Urie/Jon Walker
"The epic bandom slavefic. Running and shooting and angsting and kissing and more angsting and a bunch of kids named Alex."

"Basement Rhapsody"-Series by autoschediastic, rivers_bend (27.514 words, explicit), Bandom, My Chemical Romance, Adam Lambert, Tommy Ratliff
A High-School-AU. I like how they write the guys. Not too cute.

"A Storm Brewing; in which the honorable Spencer Smith asks questions and finds answers" by bad_peppermint (25.073 words, general audiences), written for Bandom Big Bang 2013, Panic! at the Disco, Spencer Smith/Brendon Urie - and dragons.
Lovely AU with great detail in worldbuilding and insight in Spencer's thoughts and feelings.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  - Day 7

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs.

This is quite difficult because I'm reading a broad variety of stories. I don't actively look for certain tropes. When my favourite authors release something new, I'm going to read it. But, yes, there are some tropes/clichés or themes I enjoy very much. My rec-list-bookmarking-system is non-existent, therefore I included recs that I was able to find.

Threesomes

I *might have mentioned this some time before. I'm not so sure why I like reading about it, but I'm curious about the dynamics, in and out of bed. It doesn't always have to be a three-way-lovestory, I also like reading about couples with a best friend.

"Everybody Get Up (We're Here To Get Down)" by sunsetmog is porn with feelings (which is probably also a trope/theme I like. I wrote some stories I called PWI - porn with issues-  which I also like a lot).

Pining, misunderstandings

The first fics I read were those friends-to-lovers-pining-going-on-forever stories, and I still love them. I love having my heart torn apart until the happy ending.

AUs

I prefer to read about the bandom guys and girls being in their bands. But because there are AUs out there, I read them. And a lot of those stories are wonderful.

The Killjoys-verse is an AU itself, created by My Chemical Romance in their album and videos, but the writers in fandom have developed the canon for me. And it's not even a consistent canon. Sometimes the musicians are the Killjoys, sometimes they exist in addition to them. And I don't mind because every story I read is great, builds its own world, but adds to the universe as a whole.

I can't speak of Killjoys AU and not rec "The Sharpest Lives" series by [personal profile] akamine_chan . It shaped my knowledge and love for this universe.
Recently I read "Set Fire to the Bones" by Chibifukurou who created a different but very intriguing world for the Killjoys.

But apart from that, I also really enjoy the odd Coffeeshop-AU or College-AU with everybody in bandom turning up as some character. They are usually quirky and fun.

Spencer Smith POV

I'm making it a trope if it isn't already one.
Spencer Smith is the drummer in Panic! At The Disco. I love reading stories where he's the only reasonable one in the band. I love him when he's sarcastic and grumpy. It's the best when he's pining (preferably after Brendon). There are many best-friend stories about that band that are brilliant. I usually like when people switch roles, but when Spencer's a caring top - nngh!

"Put Your Finger On My Trigger" by greedy_dancer is the best example of the latter.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  - Day 6

In your own space, create a fanwork. A drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. A picspam. Something.

I have started writing something today. Yay! But it's way from finished and not ready to post today.

When I don't know, I resort to creating icons.

[personal profile] akamine_chan wished for text based icons. I tried. Oh well.

----

P.S. on http://www.imnotokay.net I found the quote about moose. I hope that's the one you mean, Aka.

Frank: "Has Goldfinger ever seen any mooses?"
Mikey: "That isn't the plural of moose. It's moosi."
Gerard: "Fuck off, it's meese."
Frank: "Has Goldfinger ever seen a flock of meese advancing on him? It's a terrifying sight. They aren't small creatures. You would just run off like a girl or a boy. What does running like a girl mean anyway?"
Mikey: I've seen one. I'd run like a girl for sure. They're massive. If you run over one you're fucked. They come in through your windscreen kicking." - just like in Long Kiss Goodnight! But I think it was a reindeer. Same diff.
Bob: "People think that moose are really gentle and goofy but they aren't; they're fucking animals."

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  - Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

1)  M/M/M threesome recs
As I wrote one or more times before (*coughlastyearcough*), I like threesome-fics. Explicit or non-explicit, dramatic or fluffy, getting together or established relationship - I'd read it.
I'd prefer Bandom-recs, especially fics that are older and/or not on AO3 because I've been reading new ones over there for a couple of years. so I might know those already.
But if anyone has a favourite threesome-story in another fandom, please tell me as well!

And - with "recs" I don't mean pointing me in the direction where I could find fic tagged 3-some, no, I want to read things that someone liked or loves. So, tell me why, or, at least that you liked it when you rec the fic.

2)  Icons / icon recs
I don't have many icons for DW yet, so I'd love to get a few more, especially because I'm planning to post a bit more over here in the new year.
So I would like icons or icons with multiple subjects/themes: winter (see my username), spring, fun, whatever.

Point me to your creations or your favourite sites.

3)  Bandom-Meme
Since I have discovered [community profile] bandom_meme , I have read lots of brilliant prompts and fills there. I have filled some prompts myself and the non-pressure challenge is a lot of fun.
There always are lots of prompts left unfilled every month, so if you, who reads my entry, feel creative, go there and fill a prompt. Every kind of fanwork is possible. Usually each month has a theme, but very often there is an open round, and older prompts can be cited again. And noone has complained when I "misread" a prompt a little bit to fit it to my idea.
Or go there and read (also on AO3) and give the cute little stories a bit of love through your comment.

[community profile] snowflake_challenge - Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

1)  Artwork and icons
Today also is the reveal of the creators for the [community profile] bandom_holidays fanwork exchange, so I can link to what I created for this challenge:

Artwork and Icons for were_duck

I had written some Killjoys Haikus before and was inspired by them to make the artwork and add two more haikus just for were_duck.

2)  Drabbles
I seem to have the best ideas but cannot write long storylines for them. That's why I like drabbles so much. They're only 100 words, not too many possibilities for grammar-mistakes, but they still tell a story. That's what I try to accomplish.
I found out about this through two Drabble Days, organized by dear friends. Those challenges were great fun and I'm still happy about what I created:

My Drabble Days

3)  Fic
I have written longer pieces. If "longer" means about 1000 words. One fic, actually.
It's for the first fandom I actually participated in, "Alles Was Zählt", a German soap with a gay storyline.
It's revealing or defining as it's explicit and about a threesome, and I like explicit fics about threesomes.

Happy Holidays!

My holidays really have been great so far. I took part in the [community profile] bandom_holidays fanwork-exchange and had a lot of fun creating for my recipient in November.

Today (i.e. 25.12.) I woke up to the reveals and got a wonderful moving story by a still anonymous author:

Slow Burn

So if you like reading about Frank/Gerard, touring, angst, anal sex, break up, pining and a hopeful ending, go there immediately.

You can check out the other gifts at AO3, like I will do over the next days.

Happy holidays, indeed.
