Snowflake Challenge 2016 - Day 7 [community profile] snowflake_challenge  - Day X
In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

What a great day for this challenge: David Bowie has released his newest video "Lazarus" today, and tomorrow is the day that his new album "Blackstar" goes on sale.
The first time I started interacting with other fans was because of David Bowies. We swapped tapes and videos and articles, wrote letters and met at parties and concerts.
I feel lucky because I was able to see Bowie performing live several times.
Although I'm not really in touch with other fans anymore, I still buy his records and enjoy his strange artistic output.
Here's an old favourite, performed live:

And this is his new video for "Lazarus": Link to VEVO here if the embedding doesn't work.

Bowie was my first musical love - well, him and Lou Reed - and I faithfully bought is records until well into the 90s. I pretty much stopped listening to music complete in the mid 90s though and when I started again I was never able to reconnect with Bowie. I occasionally listen to his old stuff but the new is a closed book to me I'm afraid.

I have no memories of the cover of Station to Station looking like that. I wonder if there were different versions in different countries?

I just found about about Bowie. I'm feeling all shocked. He's always been there, doing his own thing and influencing others. It's so strange to think that's he's gone.

He's not someone I know a lot about, but I did enjoy checking out those two songs.

That's so great he was the prompt for you interacting with other fans.

Uggghh I love David Bowie. I haven't checked out his new stuff in a few years, but someone on my Tumblr dash has been going crazy over Blackstar. Do you have a favorite album or era?

Scary Monsters! I would say my favorites are...um...well, Ziggy Stardust, Diamond Dogs, Earthling, Hunky Dory, and Aladdin Sane (especially "Lady Grinning Soul"). I love the science fiction concept album stuff? Some songs I really like are on Scary Monsters and Reality, but they aren't my favorite albums. Also, the Labyrinth soundtrack is pretty good, lol.

I hope you are enjoying the new music so far!
