Boasting with a reason

Whenever I'm donating to charity I'm always doing it in private. Act, don't tell is my motto. But tonight I was reading my friend's LJ where she told us that she had donated to AO3 which is currently running its AO3 April Membership Drive.

I had seen their banner asking for donations but I had been reading on my ipod or thought of another reason to ignore the request and hide the banner.

But when I read my friend's post tonight, I couldn't agree more (except that my second faourite place is Twitter!).

She wrote:

"Just donated to AO3 because it's my favourite place on the internet (with Tumblr a close second).
Apart from hosting the amazing AO3 archive, OTW provides legal services and runs the Open Doors initiative, which takes over the hosting of fannish archives if the owners lose interest or lack the financial means to continue. :) "

I read fic on AO3 almost every day and I'm using it to host my own stories, so helping the people who run it to continue their great work feels right to me.

I donated per PayPal on the Donations Page and wish AO3 all the best.

So, even if boasting feels a bit strange, maybe this post inspires another person to donate like my friend's post initiated my donation.
