Snowflake Challenge 2016 - Day 2

[community profile] snowflake_challenge  -  Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.
Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish
.

Asking for things is hard. We're socialized to not ask for things, and in a lot of ways I think that's not necessarily a good thing. We feel guilt and shame when we ask, and that makes us less likely to ask for help, for care and consideration and kindness, for respect, when we all deserve those things.

When I read the explanation to this challenge I remembered a quote that U2 used in one of their videos some time ago: "A friend is someone who lets you help." It's so true, but also amazing. As a child you write a wish-list for Christmas in no time, when you're older it's harder to ask for things, especially because they're usually not the things someone can buy for you.
But I digress!

1) I was late discovering bandom fics, so if anyone knows long, epic, multi-chaptered, brilliantly written bandom-fic that is not on AO3 (because those are likely to have been read by me already) but hidden in a journal or another site, please rec. (Bandom, preferable MCR, PintD or FOB)

2) I always feel bad for wishing for a podfic of one of my written things, because a) the podficcers should choose themselves what they want to read, b) my things are way too short to podfic, c) there was a third reason somewhere... oh right, most of my longer stories are for an unknown fandom
But this challenge might be an opportunity to state the wish, just in case - maybe someone wants to try podficcing and is looking for a drabble to start with... *giggles*

3) I really haven't got a third wish at the moment. Maybe I'll think of something later.

I would argue that it's even harder for most people to ask for things you can buy. Seriously. Imagine if I'd asked people to list three things that could be purchased for them...no one would do it.

In general, people are just conditioned not to ask for things, tangible or not. We're told that we must stand tall, on our own, but the flaw in that is that humans are social creatures. We clump together for a reason.

Ah, anyway. For the first, I would just point you in the direction of [personal profile] turlough's pinboard.

They're not all long and I can't vouch for brilliantly written, but you could check out this old rec list over at LJ.

I always feel bad for wishing for a podfic of one of my written things, because...b) my things are way too short to podfic

Too short???? There is NO SUCH thing as too short. If you go on my AO3 - I'm Readbyanalise010 over there - you will see that half of the things I record are 0-10 mins long, which translate to ~2000 words, maximum. If you've ever made a podfic, you will know that it is WORK. And nobody is trying to record 50K+ on a regular basis. I'm not in bandom or I would totally record your stuff. Stay strong! Someone will come along and be inspired.
